Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,
My name is Ami Nash and as the newly-elected Secretary General of the Harvard World Model United Nations team, I am honored to invite you to the 19th session of Harvard World Model United Nations (WorldMUN). Additionally, on behalf of the Harvard team, I am pleased to announce to all members of the WorldMUN community, that after careful deliberation, we have decided that next year’s conference will be held in Taipei from Sunday, March 14 to Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Taipei International Convention Center. Although all the bids we received this year were impressive, we were particularly impressed by the creativity and dedication to the ‘WorldMUN Spirit’ displayed by the team from National Taiwan University.
Moving to a new international city each year, WorldMUN is unique among the MUN conferences in its truly global character. Over the past two decades, WorldMUN has traveled to 18 cities across three continents and has leveraged the resources of Harvard University and its passionate local hosts to provide delegates with an unparalleled substantive, social, and cultural experience. Offering delegates the chance to debate pressing global issues; challenging students to take on new perspectives; and building strong new friendships that span across the globe; WorldMUN prepares its delegates to become the world leaders of tomorrow.
More than 2,400 delegates from over 50 countries gathered for a week of dynamic cross-cultural exchange in The Hague, Netherlands for WorldMUN 2009, and WorldMUN 2010 aims to continue this tradition of excellence in Taipei. We are proud to offer twenty-two committee simulations, including WorldMUN’s first Spanish-language committee along with its first Joint Crisis Cabinet – an intensive interactive specialized agency focused on the situation in Sri Lanka. With incense-veiled temples dating back to dynastic times alongside some of the world’s highest skyscrapers, museums with famed collections of historical Chinese artifacts alongside a neoned nightlife, and packed local nightmarkets where gourmets can sample delicious regional cuisine alongside dozens of world-class restaurants, Taipei is a world of fascinating contrasts—a blending of the modern and the traditional. I can assure you that our Taipei host team is working to organize events that will allow you to enjoy the vibrant culture of their city by day and night, while interacting with other delegates from across the globe.
Please note that this year WorldMUN will be held a week earlier in March. We hope that these new dates, which are closer to many universities’ spring break schedules, will allow more universities and students to attend the conference. Information on how to apply for WorldMUN will be posted to a newly revamped website in August, and registration will open in September. Additionally, mindful of the constraints the global economic crisis may place on many of our delegations and committed to helping all interested students attend WorldMUN, we will be expanding our financial aid program this year. Guidelines on applying for a fee waiver and a guide to fundraising will be posted to our website later this summer. In the meantime, I encourage you to e-mail me at (secretarygeneral@worldmun.org) with any questions and concerns you may have. I would love to hear from you and I look forward to meeting you in Taipei in March!

Sincerely,
Ami Nash
Secretary-General
